Please return all letters for the Laptops 4 Learning programme as soon as possible, as we will be ordering the netbooks soon.
Many thanks for all those who came along to the recent parents evening it is encouraging to see the high levels of support from our parents.
Mike Jenkins (E-Resource Manager)
I would like to take this opportunity to inform you that the Headteacher, Ian Knights has given the Board of Governors notice that he intends to retire at the end of December. Ian has been at Hamble Community Sports College for approaching 15 years and has overseen considerable development at the site including the opening of the Community Sports Centre and the shortly to be opened Skills Centre. He has also overseen the rise in profile of the College such that we are currently the preferred choice for education to the east of Southampton on the Bursledon, Netley and Hamble peninsular.
I am sure that many of you as former pupils of the school and also current parents of students attending the College would join with me in wishing Ian a relaxed and well deserved retirement. Further details will be provided nearer to the time of how we as Governors and the College as a whole will be marking Ian's leaving. In the meantime the Board of Governors are setting about the process of advertising for a successor to take the College forward from January 2011, and continuing the good work that Ian has started. Clearly the next few months are critical to achieving a smooth transition and hopefully making a successful appointment of a new Headteacher.
I am sure that all parents will be supportive of the governors and the college throughout the selection process, and I will endeavour to keep parents informed of the progress made in this process. Should anyone have any concerns or queries then please do not hesitate in contacting the college office who can pass on any concerns to me.
Yours Sincerely
Gary Camfield
Chairman of Governors
Fire Incidents
Recently we have unfortunately had two fires on the campus. The first was an intentional act of arson and I have permanently excluded the young student involved, this is subject to the Governors upholding this decision at the Disciplinary hearing.
The second was combustion in a store with no student or staff involvement, the circumstances are being investigated.
On both occasions the evacuation of the building went very smoothly and according to our emergency procedures. Both students and staff responded magnificently. I would like to thank the students for the very responsible way they behaved.
Year 11
We are now entering the summer examinations period and I would like to wish Year 11 every success. They are an excellent group of young people who are a credit to their parents/carers and deserve to do well.
Yours sincerely
Ian Knights
Headteacher
