When Hamble Community Sports College was the designated as a Specialist School for Applied Learning in December 2006, we became the first school with the vocational specialism in Hampshire. Our Applied Learning specialism supports us in championing applied learning excellence by offering our students opportunities for high quality applied and work-related learning.
We offer a wide variety of applied courses and over 45% of students in Key Stage 4 follow an industry linked applied learning course. All of our Key Stage 4 students take the Preparation for Working Life course. Some of the courses we offer our students are: Drama BTEC; PE BTEC Diploma; Health & Social Care; Marine Engineering; Motor Vehicle Studies; Hair and Beauty; Catering; Construction. We offer Young Apprenticeships in: Business and Administration; Catering and Hospitality; Hairdressing; Health and Social Care; Sport; and Sport Management. This year we are able to offer 9 Diplomas in: Construction and the Built Environment; Engineering; IT; Creative and Media; Society, Health and Development; Hospitality; Manufacturing and Product Design; Hair and Beauty; Sport and Active Leisure
As a specialist school for Applied Learning we are committed to:
* Using applied learning courses, along with Diplomas, to enrich and extend learning and contribute to whole school improvement.;
* Providing a high quality applied learning offer based on consistent and effective information, advice and guidance for all young people, and clear progression routes;
* Using the Applied Learning specialism to complement, link and enhance the Sport specialism and further develop the school’s ethos and identity;
* Raising post-16 participation, through our work with Aim Higher, our partner colleges and the Hamble Skills Centre.
* To provide young people with the skills and experiences needed for employment, further education/training and higher education according to their individual abilities, aptitudes and ambitions
* Being a key member of the Eastleigh Consortium, working collaboratively with partners to create a collaborative curriculum and personalised learning opportunities. * having good leadership of applied learning.
* Active partnership in a variety of learning communities, working collaboratively to share resources and develop/share good practice.
* Working in partnership with the wider community, including business and industry. We seek to engage with employers and sectors to impact on the school, it’s curriculum and our students’ progress.
